The Archive Prints Collection is based on designs for 18th century Print Rooms, in which copper-plate engravings of decorative subjects were pasted on to the walls of great houses, and adorned with classical borders and embellishments to create stunning trompe l’oeil effects, resembling framed pictures hanging from ropes and chains. This collection will comprise of a number of designs, the first to launch is the Classical Garden Print Room.
CLASSICAL GARDEN PRINT ROOM
English aristocrats in the 18th century returned home from the Grand Tour with beautiful engravings of the sights and artefacts they had seen on their European travels. The Classical Garden Print Room design features engravings of vases from Roman Villas by Aquilla, urns from Roman Palaces by Piranesi and the statues of Diana & Earth from the Palace of Versailles, designed by Charles Le Brun. The design is united by tromp l’oeil ropes and hangings characteristic of the 18th century print room. The Classical Garden design is available both in full colour and single colour options. The six full colours in the range are yellow, dark green, blue, aqua, terracotta, burgundy and the six subtle single colour prints; charcoal, sepia, wine, green, eau de nil and pale blue, on a 100% cotton ecru base cloth.
The fabric width for all the Classical Garden colourways is 137cm (54″) with a 91cm (36″) repeat.
